Description

AED / Defibrillator Training prepares learners to react quickly and confidently during a cardiac arrest by combining CPR skills with safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants learn how an AED functions—analysing heart rhythm and delivering a controlled shock when appropriate—to help restart a normal heartbeat.

This hands‑on session teaches learners how to recognise the signs of cardiac arrest, begin CPR immediately, and operate an AED by following the device’s visual and voice instructions. Because AEDs are designed to be simple and intuitive, the course is suitable for individuals with no previous first aid experience and is valuable in both workplace and community settings, where early defibrillation can significantly improve survival rates.

Throughout the training, learners practise every step of the process, including pad placement, safety checks, rhythm analysis, and shock delivery. They also gain an understanding of how AED units should be stored, maintained, and checked after use.

Key Areas Covered

  • The purpose of an AED and how the device works
  • Identifying cardiac arrest and understanding the “chain of survival”
  • Performing CPR on an adult who is not breathing
  • Using an AED safely, including pad placement and following prompts
  • Shock delivery, safety procedures, and continuing CPR when needed
  • Basic device maintenance, storage, and accessibility considerations

After completing the training, participants receive a certificate—typically valid for two to three years, depending on the training provider.
