Course Overview

Module 1 – What is Sexual Harassment?

This module explains the meaning of sexual harassment in a workplace context, based on the Equality Act 2010. It also explores who may be affected, highlighting that anyone, regardless of role or seniority, can experience or be impacted by such behaviour.

Module 2 – Roles and Responsibilities

This section outlines who is accountable when sexual harassment occurs. While individuals are responsible for their own behaviour, employers and employees both play a role in preventing harassment. It also explains the legal duty on organisations to take proactive steps under current legislation.

Module 3 – Incidents Outside the Workplace

Learners will consider situations where harassment happens outside the physical workplace but is connected to work activities. The module explains how responsibility is determined in these cases and reinforces the employer’s duty of care.

Module 4 – Different Forms of Harassment

This module introduces the various ways harassment may occur, including verbal, non-verbal (visual), and physical conduct, helping learners recognise inappropriate behaviours in different settings.

Module 5 – Recognising Harassment in Practice

Learners will explore how the legal definition applies in real-life situations. It highlights that individuals do not need to be directly targeted to be affected by inappropriate behaviour.

Module 6 – Intent vs Impact

This section examines whether intent matters. It explains that behaviour can still be considered harassment if it has a negative impact, even if it was not intended to cause harm.

Module 7 – Identifying Harassment Scenarios

Using practical examples and case studies, learners will assess whether specific behaviours meet the definition of sexual harassment.

Module 8 – Impact of Sexual Harassment

This module looks at the effects harassment can have, including emotional, physical, and social consequences. It also considers how it may influence confidence, wellbeing, and performance at work.

Module 9 – Preventing Harassment

Learners will explore how organisations can reduce the risk of harassment by creating a positive workplace culture, implementing clear policies, and encouraging employee involvement. The role employees play in maintaining respectful environments is also highlighted.

Module 10 – Taking Action

This module provides practical guidance on what to do if sexual harassment occurs, including how to report concerns and access appropriate support.

Module 11 – Deciding Whether to Address Behaviour Directly

This module explores when it may be appropriate to challenge inappropriate behaviour and how to approach the situation safely. It provides guidance to help individuals make informed decisions, taking into account personal circumstances, and outlines practical steps to address concerns confidently while protecting their wellbeing.

Module 12 – Handling Complaints

The final section explains how concerns should be addressed within the workplace. It covers both informal and formal reporting procedures, what employees can expect during the process, and the legal requirements employers must follow when responding to complaints.
