History of Fife Group

Bulk Grain Storage Company

Grain Warehousing Services

The history of Fife Group is steeped in the whisky industry, the company originally named Bulk Grain Storage Company was formed in 1963 to provide grain warehousing services predominately to the local Fife malting industry. After a subsequent merger with another Scottish grain storage and transport company, Fife Warehousing Company was established in 1974 by the Russell, Kilgour and Kelly families. The primary focus was to provide warehousing services to the local malting and distilling industries by storing large quantities of locally produced cereals plus general warehousing services to businesses in central Fife.

The nineties saw the decline of the malting industry and Fife Group quickly adapted their business model to cope with these changes. This included adding self storage, removals and building an extensive commercial property portfolio of warehouses, industrial units and offices across central Fife. The current Managing Director, John Kilgour, joined Fife Group in 1983 working alongside his father and uncle, who were the original founders of the business.

Today, Fife Group remains a family owned business and is proud of its traditions. Gillian Donald is also a Director and Company Secretary and her father Ken Kelly, one of the founding Directors, is a serving Director. Our Chairman is John G Russell of The Russell Group and Ian Russell also serves on the Board, both their fathers were founding Directors and Brian Munro our Operations Director joined Fife Group in 1990. Fife Group also works closely with the Russell Group, who operate transport, self storage and warehousing services in other parts of the UK.

Training was recently added to the Fife Group range of services as there is a requirement for professional, high quality staff training to equip people with the necessary skills to do their job effectively. Fife Group offer a wide range of training courses from forklift training to first aid courses and LGV driver training.
